First European player commits to NHC

Olli Nyfors, a forward from Helsinki, Finland, is the first European player to commit to playing for the Norwich Hockey Club, joining the team for its second season 2023-24. And, if all goes according to plan, he won’t be the last.

Nyfors, who has played for 11 years, is a well-balanced player who can put up points even when playing in a more defensive role. A big and strong skater, Nyfors has smooth hands and great vision. He’s a leader on and off the ice and has served as captain or assistant captain for the last few years.

Nyfors drew the attention of the NHC staff during a recent trip to Helsinki. After watching him play, and then having lunch with him and his family, it was clear that he would be a hard worker on the ice, in the classroom and an outstanding addition to our program.

A solid student, he can speak four languages, plays three other sports, enjoys the outdoors and loves working with younger kids. His favorite subjects are math, history and geography.

These characteristics, combined with his hockey skills, make Nyfors a great fit for our program and sets the stage for other Europeans to join.
